Marketing and Cold Calls
Two Decades and Counting continues to sell. In no small part, owing to the efforts of my parents. Today, Dad had three sales and an order for two more. Mom was out pitching the book, too. They are awesome.
I spent the day making calls to Hy-vee grocery stores. I found that there were two types of people who were on the other end of the phone. The groups were evenly divided between people who were sports fans and those who were not. The latter group had no idea who Roy was or that there was a great team from late last century. They were not at all impressed with the idea of having an opportunity to have a signing.
The sports fans were very excited.
Still, the people who didn’t know anything about basketball, took down my name and number and said they would pass it along to their directors. I am hopeful that the directors will know who Roy is and get back to me. The main point of marketing is that one needs to make a lot of calls.
Cold calling isn’t really so bad. I don’t need to have 100% of the people I talk to, to agree to a signing, I just need some percentage to say yes. Then, it is just a matter of volume. I am hopeful that each week I can schedule a minimum of 4 signings for the following week. If I do that, we will be just fine.
Here is the graphic we are using for the book tour. I think it is nice.
