Not to Worry

There has been a bunch of national news about the Damn breaking in Jones County Iowa.  The thriving metropolis, of which I speak often, Martelle is in Jones county.  I am happy to report that we are not near the flood.

The blog is a bit late tonight because I just lost track of time.  I am working on the bottom and the top for the current box and I was  having such fun, I just lost track of time.  That happens sometimes in the fast paced world of tiny box building.  The bottom now fits though it isn’t much of an improvement on the last bottom I did.  I think I will need to continue to refine my methods.

On the plus side, I was smarter about the groove which was cut in the sides, so that works quite a bit better.  The top is not done yet, but is close.  I just need to make the 12 degree cuts and route out the bottom.  This was also an area which I need to improve upon, from the last attempt.

In other news, my blog got some much needed work done on it today.  I spent about four and a half hours going through each and every post.  I believe I found around 1000 spelling errors.  The regular reader will undoubtedly consider that to be a much lower number than they would have guessed and in truth, I make no claims that I have gotten them all.

The main point of my scrubbing was to change the way I included the Google Analytics code for my posts.  I had been doing it incorrectly and as such, have been unable to get the Feedburner subscription plug-in to work.  For it to work, one must be able to burn a Feedburner feed, which I couldn’t do because of error messages.  This scrubbing fixed the problem, which is a huge relief.  Hopefully by tomorrow I will have the subscription thingy working.

That is all for today.  I am going back to the shop.  :-)

Jim,

1) I am glad you like the Camel Musings, as I love writing them too. I can't imagine why you don't read Josephine's part? The story is much better if you read all of it.

2) I do need to do some more Henry Wood chapters, you are right.

3) No, I fixed the typos while I was deleting the Google Analytics code from the spot I had place it in each post. The GA code was causing the problem. I learned that I was supposed to be using a plugin, but I had been putting it at the bottom of each post. This was causing the errors when I tried to burn a Feedburner feed. I simply fixed the spelling errors, because I noticed them as I went through the posts.

4) I will work on trying to describe my work in better detail. Thanks for pointing this out.

5) Yes, I do have many varied interests.

6) You make an interesting point, but it doesn't fit with my example. The person who calls into the show, and saying that the coach should play the higher paid player, is not focused on the goal of profit. I will concede that if the caller was focused on losing and getting a better draft pick, then suggesting the worse of the two players is logical. I would wager though, that most callers into sports shows are devout fans which would sooner die than see their teams lose. Their goal is to win. If this is the case, then my point is valid.

7) Writing degrees should be easier!

'8) You would have definitely been in the running with Bogie and Bacall.

9) Why? It is my understanding that they require a lot of attention, time, and money. I am focused on woodworking and my blog, I have little extra time, and I need more tools. Also, I am happier than most of the people I know in relationships.

10) It is fine, I don't mind at all.

11) Noted.

12) It does, but I have also written about 20 other posts, not posted here. They are guest posts and posts for work.

13) I had never thought about it before, but you are right. I don't like it being irrational either.

14) I have found your lengthy comment to be a delight. I enjoyed responding to each of the numbers. I do hope you will consider clicking over to Josephine's blog and reading the other half of the camel story. It is much funnier if you see both points of view. Plus she is a really nice lady and I am sure would love one of your lengthy comments on her site.

Hi Brian,
I've just cought up reading your blog. Rather than leave comments on the old posts that you could miss, I'm combining them all here. In no particular order here they are.
1) I like the camel thing even though I don't read your partner's side.
2) I miss Henry Wood and would like to live long enough for the conclusion to conclude.
3) Are you really saying that typos were keeping Feedburner or GA not to work properly?
4) When you're describing your process, I've noticed that you're a lot better at describing what is in a picture than you are at painting a mental picture for your reader. I mention this because I find it cool that you can do such a great job at painting mental pictures of practically everything else you write about. lol
5) You are adding more and more subjects to your blog and I fear that one day you'll have it boken down into "SU Thursdays", "Woodworking Wednsdays", "Camel Mondays", etc. Focus is highly overrated don't you think?
6) A better TOC analysis of the football team would be to say the goal is to make more money for the team and play the star to draw more people to the stadium and increase the ratings as long as this revenue was larger than the possible revenue of winning more games and maybe getting to the playoffs and losing a higher draft pick, etc. It becomes a lot more complicated than making winning the goal.
7) Making exact 45% miters is hard. Writing degrees on a computer should be easier.
88) I would have suggested Bogie and Bacall for the chisels. I'm ok with Manfred and Donna. This is numbered 88 instead of just 8 because an 8 followed by closed parenthesis shows up as a smiley face. lol
9) You need to find a girlfriend.
10) Isn't it odd how I feel like I have a vested interest in this blog to the extent that I think I can give you personal advice like that?
11) This is not the top ten things I like about your blog.
12) It seems like an awful lot longer than 200, doesn't it?
13) I don't like the fact that the square root of 2 is irrational.
14) Sorry for posting such a long comment and best of luck in the future. I hope I can keep caught up now.

Jim

Hi Brian, So glad to hear you are not part of the flood. My heart goes out to your Fellow Iowans. When you say you are having problems with the bottom, I hope you are saying it is too loose rather than too tight. You have a clasic cross grain situation going on there if you are using solid wood. So no glue on the bottom and at least 1/16" clearance right? The bottoms should float, no glue.
Later,
Doug in Az.

I didn't know about floating the bottom. That makes gluing it up easier. Thanks for the tip.
